Abraham Benjamin de Villiers was was born in a sports loving family. His mother was a excellent tennis player, brothers played cricket even represented RSA and family was fan of rugby. Here is a thread on some of the highs and lows of his career
He made his debut against England in RSA on 17 Dec 2004 along Dale Steyn. He scored a important half century in second innings.
He scored his maiden test century against England at Centurion in Jan 2005.
He then participated in 2007 WC in Windies. He was average of there scoring 372 in 10 innings with 1 century. RSA lost semifinal to Aus
In same year he played WT20 in RSA. In this tournament too he failed to create a impact. RSA lost their final super 8 match to India and were knocked out of tournament. He had to fire ahead and he knew it.
One the best innings of himself he rates is his double century against India in Ahmedabad test. He played exceptionally well against the best spin attack at that time. He started to grow after that exponentially
Another masterclass by AB was at headingley against England in test match. While keeping he took a catch which was grasses, but AB didn't knew whether ot was a clean catch it not. But England players sledged him for that a lot. Whole crowd was booing him, but he replied back in~
style and slammed 178. Playing in front of a crowd against you is certainly a difficult task, but AB showed his capabilitiy.
Another test century and this was in 4th innings of the match. 414 was the target and RSA chased it down losing 4 wickets.
2011 WC. AB had a pretty good tournament with 353 runs in 5 matches at an avg of 88.25. Sadly RSA lost to NZ in quarterfinal.
He captained his first match against SL ODI series and won that series 3-2.
He then played in 2014 WT20. He didn't had good tournament with the bat. But he played an amazing match winning innings of 69 off 28. RSA lost to India in semis due to magical innings of Virat.
He produced a blockathon against Australia in Australia in a test match. The match was running out of the hands of RSA but Faf and AB played one of the slowest innings. AB scored just 33 of whopping 220 balls. It was difficult task for a attacking player like him, but passed the~
litmus test of a great player. Just in the next match he showed why he's best rated batsman. He slammed 169 off 184 balls.
He produced a blitz against Windies in Johannesburg. He scored 149 off just 44 deliveries at an astonishing SR of 338.63 . He scored fastest 50, 100, with best SR and equalled most sixes in match with 16 sixes
He had amazing ODI series against India in 2015 scoring 3 centuries, 2 in winning cause. He scored 119 of 61 balls in decider at Wankhede. Whole crowd was cheering, ABBBBB ABBB.
One of the heartbreaking moment in his career was 2015 WC. He was captain of RSA. He was excellent with bat again. He trashed Windies with innings of 162 of 66 balls. They lost the rain-marred semifinal against NZ. Close match and they lost. He heart-wrenching moment for him.
