I’m not gay as in happy, I’m queer as in fuck you. https://twitter.com/renzisherekiddo/status/1390674846128898054
The idea that queer is a slur that should never be reclaimed is literally in the style guide TERFs released. Feel how you want about it being used for you but you don’t get to control how other people use it for themselves.
Also note that queer started as a self ID before being used as a slur by queerphobes and then extensive work was done to reclaim it. That makes it rather unique. Also it’s radicalness is something anti queer people seek to limit.
For the love of Sappho and all things queer don’t compare it to the hard r or the r slur. Those were always meant to be violent and coined out of violence. It’s also just anti Black af.
I need y’all to understand the gravity of throwing away the power of being anti modern colonial gender system that queer has and the lengths to which our elders fought to reclaim that radical self expression. Don’t squander that.
Queerness is radical because it does away with neat little boxes that allocishet society loves. It’s the antithesis of that and that’s why so many people are trying to stop other people from reclaiming it.
They tried to take it from us but we took it back. Don’t let it be stolen again. There’s power in it.
