Since it’s mental health/illness awareness month I’d like to point out that if you say that someone you disagree with (weather it be on politics,Religion, What TV show is best...etc....) is “mentally ill” YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM! YOU ARE PART OF WHY MENTAL ILLNESS IS SO...
STIGMATIZED! Guess what nearly 1 in 5 people has at least 1 mental illness...and guess what mentally ill people ARE FREAKING PEOPLE TOO! Who are entitled to an opinion JUST LIKE YOU!
So to try and discredit someone’s opinion you disagree by throwing up the stupid argument that “ThEy ArE oBvIoUsLy MeNtAlLy iLl!” I not only ableist it’s wrong on so many levels!
Mentally ill people can have an opinion...having an opinion you don’t like or agree with does not mean their opinion is linked to their mental illness! And to say things like quoted above Makes that seem like a correlation and adds to the Stigma of those suffering...
With mental illness(es)!
So next time before you go to throw out such an awful and garbage statement 1) DON’T 2) If you are going to assume everyone who disagrees with you is mentally ill or that their mental illness makes their opinion and feelings less valid...maybe do everyone a favor and keep...
