Many ex nigerian Rns are now UKRNS USRNS CRNS 🇨🇦 ARNS🇦🇺....The list is inexhaustible.....I'm glad people are finding joy in the choices they've made...however nurses week is a time to reflect on not just the 'what' but also the 'Why'
I'll highlight a few reasons in a few tweets
1. An overwhelmed Nurse termed polyvalent:
case scenario; 36 beded unit with 2 nurses
Pharm: Nurse! your emergency drug supplies register is not up to date

Health information officer: Nurse! Your delivery booklet is not properly updated
Accounts officer: Nurse!! How come you let the patient leave without paying her bills?

Patient Relatives:Nurse! How come there is power outage in 'your' hospital

Doctor: Nurse! How come the patient died under your watch?
And ...the list is inexhaustible
2. Improvising for everything
■Methylated spirit in place of sanitizer
■giving set line in place of folders
■patients wrapper in place of bedsheets
■cloth mask in place of real N-95
■Torch 🔦 in place of well lit bulbs and angle poised lamp....e.t.c
3. Poor Disaster preparedness... no ventilators, lack of stimulus checks, insufficient PPEs

4. Ultimate power of Drs that corrupts absolutely! (Only Drs can be CMDs and Minister ....its not like that in saner climes
5.poor career progression for our Nurses; for instance Nigerian Drs were against consultant cadre for other health professionals. They even threatened to go on strike if such was granted by federal Government.
6.Poor health policies...one of them is lack of affordable health insurance policies which causes delay in accessing Healthcare. It's most frustrating for a nurse when your patients discharge themselves against medical advise due to lack of funds.
7.Poor continuity of care due to lack of electronic medical records 😢

8. Poor working conditions...I've had to take deliveries in the dark with a flash light and warm up a premature baby with a kerosene lantern before...
9.what about assault on nurses by patient, relatives, Drs...?
10.Autonomy of practice?
I could go on and on..but lemme take a break here and ask Fellow Rns:
whats most frustrating for you as far as nursing in nigeria is concerned?
