Unconventional Productivity.

4 Common Productivity Tips that don't work and what to do instead.

(A thread.)
Tip-1: Use productivity apps.

We all have heard this statement, but it isn't very effective.

By adding more apps to our lives, we unnecessarily complicate our day.

I am not against productivity apps, but spending a lot of time on finding/understanding them is unproductive.
Tip-2: Focus on 2-3 things in a day.

While this is possible for some, it doesn't do well for all. Considering the different aspects of our lives(family, work, self-care), we can't limit our list to 2-3 things.

We instead need to create 2-4 broad compartments for our life.
Then, we can, according to our priorities, decide how much time we give to each compartment.

And then, we can double down on the most important activities under each compartment.
Tip-3: Do the hardest thing first in the morning.

After waking up, we are full of energy, creativity, and ideas.

If we do the hardest thing first, we will face a lot of friction and lose energy, ending up feeling drained. We won't have a lot of energy and motivation.
Instead, we should do the most important task first.

When we do something we love, enjoy, and that adds value, we feel energized and motivated.

By doing the most important and passionate task first, we will increase our energy and sustain ourselves better throughout the day.
Tip-4 Take breaks at regular intervals.

Giving rest to our body and mind is important and required throughout the day, but not after every 30 mins or so.

When you are working on something(especially creative work) you need to enter a state of flow to achieve peak performance.
When you time your sessions/use Pomodoro Timers to take a break every 25-30 minutes, you don't enter the state of flow. Whenever you break away from your current task, you detach yourself and after getting back, your mind needs time to reconnect. And then, you take another gap.
This way, you will not fully connect with the task and achieve flow and peak performance. Instead, block out specific, large time chunks for activities of importance and don't take a break while working on something.

Instead, take a break when shifting from one task to another.
