I had a small open discussion with some of my Jewish friends sometime ago & I get it. Israel was meant to be a promised sanctuary after centuries of anti-semitic persecution. But displacing the actual people who have lived there for many centuries? Literally taking their homes?

An (over)simplification of the issue is that Zionism roots from the European vision of the Ashkenazi Jews of building their promised homeland, which disrupted not only Palestinians but also the Hamizrach (Eastern Jews) Sephardi & Mizrachi, who have lived there for 100s of years.

I guess that’s only part of the problem. At any rate, we’ve had the discussions before here and I’m not really interested in having another round. I’m no expert on this issue and I just wanted to make this commentary.

But now that there’s an uprising of violence and displacement, during Ramadan of all times, how much of history would you care to continually bring up while lives and livelihoods are destroyed over there as we speak?
