For anyone keeping track, the complete implosion of the once-dominant Virginia GOP is (1) a sign of the future in the Trumpist GOP, and (2) absolutely, positively hilarious. #ncpol #vapol
For a quick summation of the history: after a decade of losing the Commonwealth (including such absolute spectacles as neo-Confed Corey Stewart), Virginia Republicans decided to reboot for the 2021 gubernatorial election by circumventing a party convention.
VAGOP officials correctly concluded that their primary voter base had so completely cracked up with racist paranoia that statewide competitive candidates couldn't make it through.

So of course, its more batshit candidates sued their own party.
Tonight, ballots from the VAGOP's convention (held across the Commonwealth) are being driven down to the Richmond Marriott. They'll be counted by hand tomorrow. Why by hand? Because no one in the VAGOP trusts vote counting machines.

That's where they are. 🤣

Anyway, the big problem the VAGOP has is completely obvious. It's become so gripped by the Trumpist crazies that it's unable to pivot. The crazies refuse to budge on anything, which is fine, except that in politics, refusing to change makes it hard to win elections.
This same process is also playing out in Arizona right now. The Trumpist wackos are going full-bore on that whole recount thing, censuring its candidates and so on, even after losing their own state.

The death spiral is the same everywhere: the inmates are running the hospital.
The big advantage Republicans have - in states like FL TX NC - is not that they're overwhelmingly popular with voters, but that they can exert more control over the political process.

It's great while it lasts. But when their grip is broken, we see: the emperor has no clothes.
The lesson here: they're not invincible. NC (and maybe even GA) are going the way of Virginia. Just a matter of time.

Second lesson: progressives, learn from the right-wing crackup going on. Our coalition only works when it's flexible, and able to evolve and change.
