With Canavan and Christensen aiming to push some forced-birth legislation, it’s worth countering a few myths on reproductive choice

1) Pregnancy is by choice. If you are denying a women the option of termination, you are forcing or coercing her to undertake the health risks
2) Majority of terminations in Australia happen in the first trimester

You can not resuscitate a pregnancy terminated in the first trimester because there is nothing to resuscitate.
3) Pregnancies that are terminated after first trimester, are usually done so because the fetus has a medical issue not compatible with sustainable life.

These could technically be resuscitated but it would be futile and unsuccessful in most cases anyway.
4) Unplanned pregnancies happen because men ejaculate

Women can have an orgasm and not fall pregnant

No contraception is 100% effective, and they will fail despite plans not to fall pregnant
5) Imposing your own personal forced-birth beliefs on women who seek pregnancy by choice causes psychological harm

Stop being a dickhead, keep your opinions to yourself

If you are a male who is against women choosing a termination, stop ejaculating in women, or shut up
6) The maternal death rate in Australia is 1:20,000

This is twice as likely as a person under 40 getting an immune clot reaction from Astra Zeneca
