The Internet changed the world and created hundreds of billionaires

The Metaverse will be 10x that and is just getting started

Here's a thread on the Metaverse and how YOU can profit 👇👇👇
🌎What is the Metaverse?🌎

The exact definition is unclear, but we are coming to an agreement on key components.

1️⃣Mass concurrency: large amounts of people
2️⃣Common language/protocols
3️⃣Forward compatibility: The ability to exist whilst simultaneously evolving
4️⃣Its always 'on'
5️⃣It's experienced 'live' and in real time
6️⃣Fully functioning economy
7️⃣Spans across platforms (both digital & physical)
8️⃣Experiences & content will be created by users & corporations
If I had to put it into words - It's the added value from the blending of our digital and physical worlds, adding to each of our senses (sight, sound & touch) with the use of XR technology.
Lets dig deeper...

EPIC's Tim Sweeney has a vision for the Metaverse.

•A real-time 3D social medium where you interact in a social/virtual world. It could be purely games, purely social, or somewhere in-between.

•Not just built by one 'meta-corporation'.
•It will be a participatory medium of a type we haven't seen yet ( $RBLX, Fortnite & Minecraft exhibit certain elements, however these are far from complete) https://twitter.com/TimSweeneyEpic/status/1342697699179700224?s=20
📈What is the catalyst?📈

We have reached a point where the demand, software and hardware are reaching critical mass.

Each of these 3 elements need to come together in order for the metaverse to catapult into its next phase.
💵Demand💵

• Almost the entire developed world interacts with the internet in some way.
• Online gaming industry was worth over $150B dollars last year
• Over 2.5B gamers experience virtual worlds every day
• VR/AR technology is becoming mainstream with $FB/ $SNAP/ $MSFT
💾Software💾

We have some of the tools to build the metaverse...

• Unreal/Unity Engine (metaverse equivalent of Androis vs iOS)

• $NVDA's new omniverse technology

• Internet infrastructure not yet suitable (e.g. fortnite only supports 100 concurrent players in a server)
🖥️Hardware🖥️

The hardware is in relatively early stages, but we are building!

• $FB/ $SNAP/$MSFT/others developing AR devices
• $FB/ $SNE/HTC/others developing VR devices
• Nvidia is increaseing computing power

however...

• Most devices at an early stage of development
To summarize...

1️⃣The demand for these virtual worlds is at a critical mass - consumers are normalizing virtual interactions.
2️⃣The software tools are available to all (Unity/Unreal).
3️⃣Hardware is in the early stages - but taking big leaps.
💰So how can we, as investors, profit from this technological trend?💰

Let's break down the possible different components...
1️⃣Hardware - AR/VR
2️⃣Software - Platforms/tools/games
3️⃣Infrastructure - 5G/processing power/payments
Augmented Reality - bridging the divide between digital/physical worlds.

• $FB - Developing AR glasses
• $MSFT - Hololens & software
• $AAPL - LIDAR capabilities
• $SNAP - AR e-commerce
• $VUZI - AR in workplace
Virtual Reality - providing the ability to fully immerse within a 3D virtual world.

• $FB - Oculus devices
• $SNE - PSVR
• $GOOG - HTC devices
...many more...
Platforms - "something is a platform when the majority of content people spend time with is created by others"

• $RBLX
• Minecraft ($MSFT)
• Fortnite (Unreal Engine) - (Tencent $HKD has a large stake in EPIC)
Tools - Games engines are used to create the 3D Virtual worlds. 2 main competitors here.

• $U - Unity Engine
• EPIC - Unreal Engine (not traded publicly, though you could gain exposure through investing in Tencent)

...and...

• $NVDA - Omniverse (new)
5G - enabling the transfer of large amounts of data at a low level of latency, meaning we can use these devices outside of our homes.

(I'm not knowledgeable on 5G stocks, so please do add any suggestions)

• $QCOM
• $TSMC
• $INTC
Processing power - with the exponential increase in the amount of data being processed every second, we will need more powerful computers to process the data.

• $NVDA
• $AMD
• $INTC
• $TSM
Payments - for there to be a functioning economy within the metaverse, there needs to be a payment system built for the digital world.

It could be crypto.

It could be an evolved iteration of a current payment infrastructure (e.g. $PYPL or $SQ )

It's hard to predict.
To summarize...

The metaverse is more of a concept at the moment.

But it's a concept that is quickly becoming reality as technology develops and the line between digital & reality continues to blur.

There is still a long way to go, but the early signs of a Metaverse are here.
I'll leave you with a quote from @ballmatthew - the 'go-to' person on all things 'metaverse'...

"The Metaverse has become the newest macro-goal for many of the world’s tech giants..."
"As I outlined in February of 2019, it is the express goal of Epic Games, maker of the Unreal Engine and Fortnite..."
"It is also the driver behind Facebook’s purchase of Oculus VR and its newly announced Horizon virtual world/meeting space, among many, many other projects, such as AR glasses and brain-to-machine communications..."
