Why Finn & Rey’s relationship is the most important relationship and the very backbone of the Sequel Trilogy; a much needed thread
The Force brings Finn & Rey together when it awakens in Finn as he decides to leave FO. Kylo senses the Force in him as well.
As we know, Finn & Rey later cross paths in Niima Outpost where BB-8 mistakes Finn for a thief. Stormtroopers looking for the droid quickly force Rey & Finn to work together to save themselves, and the droid. They both show excellent skills with handling the Falcon.
Finn picked up quickly the shooting from a ship w Poe and Rey has been flying small ships on Jakku before. Both of their skills now driven by the force and the two of them escape. They also both learn about the Force at the same time from Han.
Despite their bikering, Rey & Finn get well together from the start. They really like each others company and they both compliment each other, something both of them haven’t got in their respectable pasts. And when Finn gets the possibility to leave, he begs Rey to come with him.
We all know what happens next. Hosnian Prime gets destroyed, Kylo takes Rey and this is where Finn chooses his side. He could trust Han, Leia, Poe and everyone else to get Rey. But he won’t. He wants to come himself and even lies to get himself into that position.
Finn & Rey are the new representation of the Light Side of the Force. They are the balance, the state Force constantly seeks to be in.
Now Finn & Rey are mostly separated in TLJ (in a perfect world Rey would’ve started to train with Luke and Finn would’ve picked up lessons from Leia during the time) but the care the two of them have is still evident. They both want each other to be safe.
When they reunite in tlj, as Rey lifts the rocks, when Finn starts running towards her, the rocks float from his way. The force has reunited them again.
During tros, Finn & Rey’s bond is very solid. They often share things to one another that they don’t share others, leading to Poe’s annoyment for feeling left out. Finn’s instincts and understanding have grown with the force and he now knows to rely on it, just like he
relies on Rey. Because Rey has the force, too.

I often see people talk how Rey isolates from Finn, from there actually is multiple moments where she only shares what she is going through with him and Finn can always tell when something is bothering her.
And while Rey is afraid of herself, the truth about her family and what it makes of her, we must remember that Finn actually finds out and connects the dots from D-O. When Rey is insecure and afraid of what she might become, Finn isn’t. His faith in Rey is solid as a rock.
Their bond is so deep that even when Rey is dying, she doesn’t allow herself to collapse before she senses Finn is safe in the Falcon. And Finn as we know, can feel Rey’s death.
Their reunion at the end is very important. As the trio hugs, Poe is happy and smiling, but both Rey & Finn are crying. They are happy and alive. But they can sense each others emotions and the relief of both of them being alive after all they went through, is overwhelming.
We can argue all day what was done well and what was done badly; but Finn & Rey are the future of Star Wars beyond the saga movies. They are the future of the Force. That is why their relationship is the most important one in the sequels. Bc its the very beginning of a new era.
