My verdict on the 20 man squad that travelled to Elland Road today. [A THREAD]
Hugo Lloris: Good enough.
An underrated shot stopper - could have been 7 or 8 today without him. Been making quality saves to keep us in games. Has the odd mistake in him but very good goalkeeper & someone who ofc has to be replaced at some point, but I’d be in no rush to do so.
Serge Aurier: Squad player at best.
Improved a lot this season & a lot less of a car crash, sound defensively particularly in the first half of the campaign but we’ve seen the old Serge at points. He shouldn’t be good enough to start week in week out if we want to compete.
Toby Alderweireld: Good enough.
The best centre back at the club in my opinion. Has the composure Dier & Sanchez don’t & the ball playing capabilities they don’t as well. Lost pace but partner him with a quicker centre half. He is ageing but I wouldn’t be in a rush moving him on.
Eric Dier: Not good enough.
It’s clear he cares. But imo he sees himself as better than he is. Not got the footballing ability. He’ll shout at others but he spends more of the game ball watching. Got an excessive amount of errors in him although he’s have you believe differently.
Sergio Reguilon: Needs Competiton.
He looked really good in the first half of the campaign. Influence going forward and good defensively (POCKETED Mahrez in Nov.) but since he’s returned from his injury he’s been poor. Needs Sessengon in next season to provide some competition.
Pierre-emile Højbjerg: Good enough.
Bargain. Looks knackered sometimes but still has good games. Gets dragged about filling gaps a bit and looked really poor on the ball today but give him a rest & young Oliver Skipp next season and I’m sure we’ll see him class week in week out.
Gio Lo Celso: Decent option.
Weird one. Attacking output fallen off a cliff since he signed but showed to be a real spark in a poor side last year. CAN bring something to the midfield when he’s on it but hasn’t shown the quality we expect week in week out. Had injuries as well.
Dele Alli: Not sure.
Been in such poor form over the past couple of years. Still talent in there & we saw that today. It’s now about him getting his head down and whether that’s gonna happen at Spurs or if he’s gonna be moved on for some money & try to flourish again elsewhere.
Gareth Bale: Good enough.
Deserves a second season imo. Shown his quality when he’s been given consistent game time. Didn’t get on the ball a lot today and you can have him in rotation in games that better suits others but he’s not totally past it & still has a lot to offer.
Heung-min Son: 100% good enough.
Hasn’t had as gd of a 2nd half of the season compared to the 1st but hasn’t been poor since the turn of the year. Can ghost games but is such an entertaining player cutting in & it takes one moment for him to pull out a fine finish from nowhere.
Harry Kane: Deserves so much more.
World class player. Best in the PL this season. Scored the most goals. Added the most assists in the league to his game too. Such a good player we’re going to let go to waste due to a lack of investment as we fail to get things over the line.
Joe Hart: Ok substitute.
Clearly offers insight & winning mentality to the changing room. Ofc not a threat to Hugo & he’s not as good of a keeper as Gazzaniga imo.
Matt Doherty: Not good enough.
Looked shite & the styles don’t click. Had attacking freedom as a wing back for Wolves. Hasn’t had that for Spurs but when he’s played for the most part he’s lacked quality in both respects of his game. Poor recruitment & bad displays on his part.
Davison Sanchez: Not good enough.
Has shown some promise and got the makings of a decent defender with strength, pace and should have a bit of ball carrying ability but has mistakes in him & will have a brainless moment out of nowhere. Crumbles under pressure. Bottlejob.
Harry Winks: Not good enough.
Limited player. What he brings is recycling of the ball and maintaining of the possession. Can’t make a hell of a lot happen but a youngish British boy that’s respresented the Three Lions would, like Sanchez, command a little bit of value.
Lamela: Isn’t good enough.
There’s rare moments where you love the guy. Majority of the time you hate him. Aggression but mostly way over the top & dirty. Can be quite stupid & only has one foot. Not done a lot in an 8 year Tottenham career. Let him go and join José in Italy...
Moussa Sissoko: Nowhere near good enough.
Liability is the word. Didn’t start his life at Tottenham well. Had a really good season in 18/19 but doesn’t offer anything bar physicality. Clunky, lethargic wasteman that gives the ball away, does stupid things & can’t even jump 😭
Steven Bergwijn: Got more to prove.
Shown quality last year but has been drained of confidence this campaign. Needs a gaffer to give him the nod & the freedom to skip past people and attack the goal as he did at PSV. Maybe that’s on loan but imo he can be given a shot & do a job.
Lucas: good enough option.
More than happy if he’s kept at the club. Had a long period lacking end product but rlly impressed me recently. Can be put into games where he can just press & drive. Great to watch even when the team around him’s dry. Thrived through the middle.
Tanguy Ndombele: Definitely good enough.
Starts in midfield every week for me. Such a silky player. Can make things happen in tight spaces. Skilful. Got class outballs & can dribble too. Massively improved his all round game as well. Still should be a pivotal player for us.
End of thread. Huge misconception that we have one of the best squads itl. A handful of quality players but many of the guys we thrived with have aged or moved on. No reinvestment or improvement from Levy who’s just worried abt his own pockets as him Hitchen make poor decisions.
