I think we should normalize short videogames.
Resident Evil Village is a nice reminder that not every game needs an infinite amount of sidequests, a map bigger than Skyrim and a lot of hours of story content to be worth the money.
I'd much rather play less but with more quality
This is coming from someone whose favorite games are Final Fantasy, as well as Zelda Breath Of The Wild.
In those games, longevity has a reason.
Oftentimes tho, it's just there to convince you to drop those $70 on day one, but is a complete waste of your (and the devs's) time.
Making a longer game does not automatically increases its value.
For example, a musician can make a 10 minutes-long song, but write in a way that's boring.
She can also make a song that's 1 minute long and blows your mind for a different reason every time you listen to it.
The effort and skill required for the 1 minute song in that example far exceed what making the boring 10 minute song costed.
So no, length does not automatically imply value, or effort.
Having a game that holds an incredibly high value for 100s of hours is a dream, but what's most important is that a game doesn't steal unnecessary time from you.
Rather, it's important that it keeps on giving for as long as it can, and then let you move on when it can't anymore.
