‘Oxygen level’- A term we have come across very often in the past one year.

Ever wondered, you acquire a molecule which increases the total blood oxygen capacity SEVENTY fold !!!

Lets learn what is it and how can we make use of it…
Hemoglobin

-> A protein in the RBCs that carries oxygen to your body’s organs and tissues to generate energy (ATP).

-> It also brings back Carbon Dioxide from them back to your lungs.
-> There are ~5 Million RBCs in the human body.

-> 1 RBC consists of ~300Million Hemoglobin molecules.

-> 1 molecule of Hemoglobin can carry up to 4 molecules of oxygen.

You can do the math !!!
->Drop-in HB levels in the blood lead to a condition called 'Anemia'.

->Due to less oxygen reaching their cells, people suffer from Anemia and get tired very easily, tend to feel faint, dizzy, etc.

->Thus, greater risk of infections such as cold and cough due to lower immunity.
An increase in the production of more RBCs would subsequently lead to more Hemoglobin molecules carrying an exponential number of Oxygen molecules.

What are RBCs and Hemoglobin made up of and how can we increase their count?
-> Vit B12 and Folic acid are essential for Red Blood Cell formation and maturation.

-> The protein binds with Iron to form Hemoglobin.
Best food sources?

(RBCs = Vit B12 + Folic Acid)

-> B12 sources - Found only in Animal foods, milk, eggs, fish, etc. (Vegetarians can opt for B-complex supplement).

-> Folic Acid sources - Green leafy vegetables (Especially Spinach), Mushrooms, Brocolli.
Hemoglobin (Protein + IRON)
-> Protein- Animal sources, Paneer, Whey, Milk.

-> Iron- Animal Source(Rich in ‘Iron');
Meat, Fish, Oysters, Sea-food, etc.

Plant source- Leafy vegetables, oilseeds, Mint, Methi, betel leaves etc.
For better iron absorption add Vitamin C(Eg. Lime)
