This thread makes me think of the western individualistic ideals vs eastern collectivist ideals and the limitations of writing consciously within a genre (danmei) https://twitter.com/luuuunadiane/status/1391026281840402435
This thread is Right but also from an absolute neutral standpoint the opposing perspective of the threads pov can be true.
WWX & LWJs individualistic ideals arent wrong, just like collectivist ideals arent either, but setting within the story says wwx&lwj are wrong & majority of eng fandom supporting individualism says wwx & lwj are right.
As for wwx+lwj escaping consequences the thread is right but also they both dont entirely escape consequences either. Going against the grain in setting sets off a chain reaction, esp if u have ppl around u who care abt u too so...
I think WWX getting out of jail free card (& esp the non-resolution w/JC) has to do with mxtx burning out & just wanting to finish & giving the promised happy end w4ngxian as dictated by danmei genre more than anything else?
Wwx & JC resolution would be messy long & take too much attention away from the main couple& i think mxtx kinda realized that by the end, wwx & jc are more intimately intertwined in levels of complexity in emotional intensity & complications that tie into the plot
Like... lokey i feel in a traditional book publishing setting, if mxtx had a good editor she'd be told to restructure the whole plot for w4ngxian or change the ship to chengxian?
I think thats where mxtx learned a lot too, she didnt repeat the same mistake with TGCF & made sure hu4lian was the integral emotional focus tied into the main plot. Even with side arcs like black water mxtx made sure to open&close those miniplots cleanly & weave hu4lian into em
Ending of mdzs felt like "im tired of writing this novel & the emotional tension & focus is slipping from the main couple but i set out to make this ship canon so i gotta just wrap it up quick" hence the limitations of danmei genre & promise of main ship over everything
