PERSONA, who does God say am I?

RM, the ultimate poet, wrote Persona, a vulnerable song that discusses his concept of the self.

But did you know that he mentioned Christian theology & included an expression used by Jesus?
[A Short Thread]
Letā€™s start by examining the very first verse. Namjoon starts out by questioning who he is and wonders if heā€™ll ever be able to answer that question. Then he goes on to say:

ā€œIf I were answerable with only few words,Ā God wouldnā€™t have created all those many beautiesā€
Different translators and interpreters have different ideas to what Godā€™s ā€œbeautiesā€ RM is referring to. So letā€™s think, what are some things that God created that will help explain who we are? Well, we think there could be two types of beauties that heā€™s referring to.
1. ā€œWordsā€ are the beauties that God created, so RM needs to use many of those beautiful words to explain who he is, not just ā€œa few.ā€ Since Namjoon is a writer, words to him are more than just letters, theyā€™re something beautiful, even created by a higher power.
2. ā€œCreation,ā€ as in Godā€™s creation, are the beauties which he can use to describe himself. From green mountains to blue skies, people big and small, young and old. All these creations are beauties which he can use as a reference to describe himself, but he canā€™t just use a few.
Here are examples of each:

- Using words:
ā€œNamjoon is a magnificent one-of-a-kind artistā€
Is that enough? NO

- Using creation:
ā€œNamjoon is as wise as King Solomon and as strong as a mountain.ā€
Is that enough? Still not enough!

We need more of Godā€™s beauties to describe him
Whatā€™s so wonderful about this song and this verse in particular is that heā€™s admitting that he is so complex, and so wonderfully made, that itā€™s not simple at all to say ā€œI am thisā€ or ā€œI am that.ā€
Namjoon seems to believe in the Christian theology and belief of ā€œCreationismā€
Creationism states that God created the universe and everything in it, and that it wasnā€™t a coincident. Youā€™ll notice this theme is actually evident in many BTS songs, but thatā€™s a discussion (and possibly a thread) for another day https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="šŸ˜‰" title="Zwinkerndes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Zwinkerndes Gesicht">
Moving on to the next part, Namjoon is telling us that heā€™s good but feeling a little uncomfortable. He says heā€™s not sure if heā€™s a dog or a pig, but people go and put pearl necklace on him, and that makes him uncomfortable. The expression heā€™s using originates from the Bible.
The Bible verse is Jesusā€™ words. He was telling His followers to not waste time telling the Good News to hard-hearted & hostile people, because they wonā€™t like it, and instead will attack you. Thereā€™s a difference between talking to the willing vs. talking to the hard-hearted.
In other words, donā€™t give what is precious & dear to you to people who wonā€™t appreciate it, or you. So Namjoon here is saying that he doesnā€™t always feel worthy of all of the fame, love, and attention heā€™s given. He doesnā€™t feel like he deserves ā€œpearls,ā€ the good things.
Of course, heā€™s wrong and deserves it all. Namjoon is very humble and sometimes struggles with understanding how worthy and deserving he is of everything good and ARMYs love. He feels good about himself but sometimes a little ā€œuncomfortableā€ by having so many good things.
He spends half of the song questioning his concept of the self. But by the end of it he seems to have come to terms with the fact that yes, God created him complex, but heā€™s BEAUTIFULLY complex and that all parts of him are important and worthy.
And thatā€™s it! For a less than 3 minutes song about the psychological concept of persona, itā€™s certainly impressive that he managed to include two deep Biblical themes https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="ā˜ŗļø" title="LƤchelndes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: LƤchelndes Gesicht"> Heā€™s a very talented writer.
