this skull took ~min. 40 hours to make it. simply to MAKE it. timeline wise, my first session on it was march 10. completed it on april 20. consider the price of the supplies, miyuki beads and leather arent cheap. not to mention the years of work learning my craft.
if i charged hourly, with a 15$ minimum wage, that’s $600. BUT, many skilled artists can charge +$20/hour. that’s $800+.
i charged $350 for it. i don’t know if it was right or wrong, but it sold. very quickly. and i was in awe that someone saw that worth in my work.
every time i put beadwork out it is a balancing act of being accessible to my community while also providing for myself.
seeing urban outfitters post absolutely horrid beaded earrings with a price higher then my minimum was a shock
i’ve had reevaluate my pricing every time i have a sale. so many different aspects need to be considered every single time.
i question myself more often then i should, but everyone’s support of my work is literally mind blowing and amazing and shuts my anxious brain up real quick.
