people who are like, “well *i* have mental health issues & *i’d* never do that” maybe don’t understand or can’t comprehend the full spectrum of mental illness. it can make u behave erratically, irrationally, inappropriately, distressingly. it can make u say things u don’t believe
i’ve said this loads before but well-intentioned statements like “everyone has mental health” minimise ~just how bad~ things can get for some. everyone owes it to themselves to look after their wellbeing but not everyone will become so distressed or delusional they can’t function
not everyone will lose jobs, friends, relationships, years to mental illness. not everyone will receive a stigmatised diagnosis. not everyone will find themselves at the mercy of the DWP. not everyone will be involuntarily admitted. not everyone will be traumatised by treatment
my mental illness has made me:
- verbally abusive, screaming at ppl trying to help me
- self-destructive, with life-changing consequences
- emotionally & sexually disinhibited
- violent towards property, & while thankfully never towards others i live in fear i have that capacity
v probably tmi lol, but i’m so sick of mental illness being sugar-coated by awareness drives. everyone has their own experience & i can’t speak for others, but mine is: it continues to fuck up my life to a devastating, mortifying degree & living with it can be close to impossible
