There is so much historical, social and political weight on the decision to not have children. It& #39;s tied up in the oppression of women, the objection to women having sexual agency; in systemic misogyny, religious dictates, and social norms.
Being childfree by choice is in some ways like any other "lifestyle" choice (veganism, non-monogamy, even breastfeeding vs. formula): People feel threatened you& #39;re doing something different than what they chose, get defensive & lash out. They see my choice as judgment of them.
To me, the take-away quote from this article is this: "It’s surprising how many women are offended by my decision. They think, & #39;What must you think of me if I’ve got kids?& #39; I don’t think about you at all. I just don’t want kids."
