So what do we know about this latest Covid-19 symptom

Some patients have reported developing painful mouth ulcers or rashes on their tongues, this has been dubbed as "COVID tongues"

🔹 It inflammatory disorder that usually appears on the top and sides of the tongue.

So what does COVID tongue look like?

🔸 Your tongue may start to appear white and patchy

🔸 Patients have also reported an unusually dry mouth and subsequent fungal infection.

🔸 It could also be accompanied by a change to the tongue's sensation & pain during chewing

What are the symptoms ?

Patient may report
🔸 Burning sensation while eating, 🔸Decreased thirst
🔸Decreased urination
🔸Altered taste for quite a long time.

Intraoral examination reveals white lacy patches on tongue which may not be completely scrappable while brushing.

What causes COVID tongue?

There are a lot of ACE receptors in the tongue, so the virus concentrates very heavily in this region.

In tongue,there can be a lot of viral load and that can lead to symptoms like tongue bumps and tongue swelling.
