In my attempts to get a reliable way to check my blood pressure at home, I'm increasingly convinced that maybe medicine just...does not actually know how to check our blood pressure at all

Maybe it's not so much "[fatness] causes hypertension" so much as "medicine doesn't actually have a reliable way to measure fat people's blood pressure"

(Obviously fat people are valid whether or not we're considered "healthy", just. I am frustrated by this.)

There's like one manufacturer that claims to have made a home blood pressure testing machine that will reliably check fat people's blood pressure

But it of course costs way more than like every other home BP device

Thinking of all the medical providers who have made a big deal about switching to a larger cuff size like it's a giant burden or something

And also the ones who cut corners and do not switch the cuff size

The medical providers who just automatic reach for a bigger BP cuff and don't make a big deal about it are, IME, the ones who are also fat

(And like 95% of the time they're also Black women, who have to deal with Fatmisia plus misogynoir)
