This appears to be a Tempest from 486 (NZ) Sqn. The individual aircraft letter may be U, H, K, N or M. Fairly certain it isn’t N, since JN766 had the sqn code ahead of the roundel. It may not be M, since SN129 was photographed at Lubeck in 1945.
The hunt continues....
I want to say that it’s an M, but it seems that Jimmy Sheddan’s SN129 survived the war...
Downloaded the operational record books for 486 in 1945. Maybe I’ll find something there. Pretty sure I can rule out M.
I think it may be SA-U. This is possibly Pilot Officer Anthony Harold Bailey’s airplane, which he crashed on 26 March 1945 after being fatally wounded by flak. He was on his 74th combat mission.
