So... the issue with that Sonic fangame is that they're making money from it, and that threatens the entire fangame/hacking scene.

It doesn't matter how good or bad the game itself is. And I'm a little baffled that THAT'S where the discourse has gone in the past day or two.
Keep the message clear: The dev team doing this is an existential threat to a community that's done so many wonderful things over the decades.

If Sega had stomped them out in 1999 because some dumbass was trying to sell their IP, we never would have had Sonic Mania.
If they start going after fan projects now because of this, there's no telling what we might miss out on.
