i just saw a tiktok on what’s currently happening in colombia and it made me sick to my stomach and i’m not seeing a lot of people talking about it on twitter so here’s a thread:

first off, i just want to drop the tiktok that i saw that made me aware of the situation, so here it is:

and here is her profile. she’s posting updates on the situation and what she knows from her friends and family who currently live in colombia.

for the past 8+ days, Colombians have been protesting a new tax reform, which has now been withdrawn, however, protests have continued. these protests have been entirely peaceful, yet, at least 37 people have been killed and over 1700 people have been victims to police brutality.

according to that tiktok above and other sources, police have also started to rape, sexually assault and make people disappear; all peaceful protesters. the government has also started to restrict phone and internet access, so people can’t post about what’s happening or call 911.

if anyone is colombian or knows anyone who is currently in colombia and has more information for me to add, please feel free to let me know and i’ll add it to this thread! i want to learn about this as much as possible and i want to inform as many people as i can :)

these are numbers of people who have been victim to the colombian police’s unjust actions as response to the peaceful protests since they started on april 28th.
