I wanted to share a quick story from last night...

I was at the gym working out when one of the employees from @DunkinDonuts came in with two full boxes of donuts and left them on the front counter.
He's also a member at the gym and as he started working out I approached him and asked if the donuts were for anyone. He said yes.

As I grabbed a Boston Creme he came over and we started talking.
Since I'm in Dunkin Donuts everyday for my bagel bites... we always say hi to each other and he's always extremely nice and courteous.

He told me that every night Dunkin has to throw away the leftover donuts, muffins, etc.
Jonah: why doesn't Dunkin setup a program where those leftover products can be sent to a local homeless shelter

DD guy: Dunkin used to do this but then someone in a shelter sued Dunkin for something dumb and actually won a million dollars
Jonah: well, maybe it's better that people aren't living off donuts and muffins

DD guy: I used to live in a shelter and the food is horrible, I'd rather live on donuts and muffins
DD guy: I used to find better food going through the trash cans at the food court in the mall

Jonah: wait a minute, you used to eat of trash cans, are you serious?
DD guy: yes, I made some very bad decisions in my life, I was a bad alcoholic, unemployed and living on the streets

Jonah: how and when did you turn it around?
DD guy: 2 years ago me and my friend were wasted and we almost died in a car crash, I woke up covered in blood and it was the moment that I decided to get sober

DD guy: I've been sober for 2 years now and thankfully was able to get a job at Dunkin Donuts.
DD guy: I could probably stay home and collect unemployment like many of my friends are still doing but I'm just thankful to be working and putting my life back together
We then spent the next 20 minutes talking about stocks, crypto, sports, the pandemic, the vaccine and a bunch of other stuff.

I think I'm still in shock.
I see this guy every day at Dunkin and he's always smiling. Never in a million years would I have guessed he was homeless just a couple years ago and eating out of trash cans.

I think it's a good reminder to be nice to people because you never know what they've been through.
