Imagine being limited by the tools you could buy at the hardware store and not having machinists on staff to be able to create bespoke tools.

If you agree that the above is limiting, why don't more security teams hire software engineers or security engineers w/ software skills?
It may not be popular with everyone, but that is why for all of the roles on our team, a coding tech screen is the first step. We are an engineering-driven security team and that is critical to our success as well as for maintaining empathy for the org we are a part of.
