As today is #VEDay we reflect on #WW2, and the story of the Rawsons, a mining family from Ripley #Derbyshire, whose son William was captured during the war in 1942 and held prisoner at camps in Italy and Germany

The story of William being missing in action was widely reported in local papers - the family had not seen their son for 9 years. Amazingly William managed to escape along with other British prisoners in September 1944, using a motorised bike and lorry to reach American lines.
