There was a time when the late Jagganaatha Mishra was the CM of Bihaar. It was he who introduced Urdu as the third official language of Bihaar. We must remember Bihaar was not formed on a linguistic basis. It was formed on the basis of administrative convenience.
So at present Bihaar has English, Hindi and Urdu as official languages. Now we take the case of Maithili. When he being the Congress CM of Bihaar took the decision of making Urdu as d 3rd official language. There was no opposition to this decision by the Maithili speaking Hindus
in general & Maithili speaking Brahmins in particular.Maithili speaking Hindus remained silent as there was less information those days plus Jagganaatha Mishra had Maithili as his mother tongue.Maithili speaking Braahmins remained silent as Jagganaatha Mishra belonged to the
Maithil Braahmin community. Thus due to linguistic affiliations & caste affiliations, Urdu defeated Maithili.Maithili became an orphan in Bhaarata Bhoomi. You cannot remove Hindi from Bihaar as it acts as a common language among Bhojpuri,Maagadhi and Maithili speaking Hindus.
So if you come out on the streets of Bihaar, you have to speak Hindi as Maithili people understand Bhojpuri but can't speak.Maagadhi people can understand Bhojpuri but can't speak. Thus Hindi acts as a link language in Bihaar. When Lalu became CM of Bihaar,he intentionally removed
Maithili as he is a Bhojpuri speaker and he knew that Braahmins and Kaayastha of Bihaar have lot of respect for Maithili. He has a lot of hatred for BraahminsKshatriyas,Bhumihaars & Kayastha. So Bhojpuri,Maagadhi & Maithili are living in mode of communication.
Maithili is somewhat in a better position as it has been recognized in the 8th schedule and one can give UPSC and BPSC examinations in Maithili. But on a different plane, all three languages of Bihaar are facing injustice.
