She loudly told me how disgusted she was that I was ‘on my computer’ ignoring my baby. Everyone stared. I was stunned to silenced. She left the cafe and I just cried, exhausted, new mum, new doctor tears. 2/3

The waitress came to tell me 1 of their reg customers paid my bill. Later I found out he was a retired prof of medicine. Some years later I was his doctor during an admission. And recently, i saw his obituary. He can’t have known what I was doing that day. It didn’t even matter.
