@paulmasonnews
Paul,
you absolutely •nailed it, describing the population as voting essentially upon their (perceived /felt) personal identity.
and no more so than in Scotland.
that is exactly what is happening (just about everywhere) in contemporary politics.
please see my tl! https://twitter.com/Rourke199811/status/1390987013982150656
@paulmasonnews

b.

and i think that you are entirely correct, suggesting that the labour party has make a /•single offer/ to the population — in much the same way that @JoeBiden has in the United States.

there is simply no other conceivable route out of this terrible mess ..
@paulmasonnews
c.
and as Clive Lewis @labourlewis stated earlier, Labour has to be sincere and •genuine.
endless ‘triangulation’ just doesn’t work — the ‘traditional’ (= WWC) voters ^know what is genuine and real to them, just as my contemporaries in academe know what is real.
d.

be genuine and be constant and there might just be some hope in a terrible situation.

@NicolaSturgeon and the SNP is a brilliant ⚡️example of this.

people •know what the SNP /represents/, in terms of attachments and values.
and the SNP attracts support from graduates as it
@paulmasonnews

e.

does from “working-class” communities (— though the two cohorts do of course converge!)
@paulmasonnews

f.

nothing is entirely fixed in politics. my personal feeling is that nearly all ‘traditional’ voters will switch •irrevocably to the Con. party.

this began in the south more than forty years ago. growing up in Dorset, i never met a ‘working-class’ person
@paulmasonnews

g.

anywhere that voted labour.
i repeat: anywhere.
all of the working-class voters that i met /knew voted (uniformly) for the Con. party. and that is absolutely entrenched here.

conversely, the •only labour voters that i knew (in Dorset) were teachers, doctors

and solicitors.
and that has /always been/ the labour party — without any exception whatsoever — that i •know and recognise.

it just feels to me that the rest of England (— England, not the UK) has inexorably followed this continuing political reality.
@paulmasonnews

i.
however, i would love to be proven incorrect on this, regarding the working-class communities in the north.
— i would love to ^see ‘traditional’ voters (re)embrace a labour party.
how this is ⚡️effected ... you know this better than me — but a (genuine) single
@paulmasonnews

j.

offer appears the best and /the most rational/ way to go.
