I really enjoy a lot of the pro-singledom writing that’s emerging, and a huge amount of it has resonated with me deeply, but there is something about the genre that feels a bit off, and I can’t really put my finger on what that is
Sometimes it feels like yet another way women (and it seems to be mostly female writers) are forced to justify their choices...?
Or maybe it’s the issue of defining oneself by/building an identity around something that could change in a flash
Maybe it’s also that building a brand around/defining yourself as A Solo Woman™️ feels like it sort plays into the thing it rails against, i.e. a society that ignores, undermines and generally fails to accommodate the single child-free woman
Tl; dr: I DON’T KNOW WHY I FEEL A BIT WEIRD ABOUT THIS GENRE OF WRITING BUT I DO
