I call eclipses game changers. They are super charged lunations, so the basic signification for new and full moons stays the same but with the inclusion of the nodes and wider series of cycles (saros etc)
Firstly let’s dismiss that 6 months myth.
whilst eclipse points can remain activate/sensitive for around 6 months (depending on the eclipse duration). Unless you are impacted during that first 2 weeks, don’t go attributing everything to it for the next year.
What upgrades a lunation to an eclipse? Those nodes.

It becomes an eclipse when the nodes are within 17 degrees

Which is why at the start and end of the cycle you will find lunations not in the same side of the nodes.
Eclipses have many cycles.
2ish years is the duration of eclipses on an axis
9ish years between eclipses on the same axis
19 years total cycle outside of saros series
