Congratulations on winning the election @Amanwy. It wasn't the outcome I'd personally hoped for but you have a clear mandate to govern Wales. As a Llanelli resident I'd like to press you on issues that I believe will receive cross party support in the next Senedd term
1/10
First, reform of Welsh democracy. We need fewer and larger strategic authorities and we need to bring accountability for health, education, economic development, housing etc under their control. The Senedd needs more members. We need to use STV in elections.
2/
Done as part of a holistic change over a series of phases with improvements in services and cost savings demonstrated, I believe this would also win public approval.
3/
Second, you are in a position to make the democratic case for further autonomy for the Senedd. We need to devolve justice, the media, taxation, welfare and more to Wales. You have a mandate. Use it. Yes, Johnson and the Tories will frustrate this mandate. Use that also.
4/
You must stand up for Wales. You must fight for constitutional security for the Senedd. It cant be allowed to exist at the grace of a Tory administration at Westminster. It cant be allowed to be undermined by Tory nationalists. Our political self determination is too important
5/
Thirdly, the next Senedd must look at the Welsh economy in terms of an "All Wales Market." Banc Cambria is a step in the right direction. We lose an estimated £1Bn in GDP simply because we don't have Welsh banks into which to deposit our money.
6/
You may have heard of dual power. If it is an argument that Wales lacks the economy or institutions for independence then isn't it an indictement of the governance of our nation that this is the case at all (though I disagree with the initial premise)?
7/
Focus on building the institutions and sustainable economy Wales needs to stand on its own two feet. The dependance as solidarity argument is a false equivalence and a poor case for the UK. Building Welsh autonomy & self-reliance will raise living standards.
8/
But that is not enough in itself. I'm sure Plaid Cymru will continue to hold you to account wrt social policy. I want to see an end to poverty in Wales as your party has previously promised.
9/
I recall that you once said that you'd thrown the kitchen sink at the Welsh economy. It was a poor analogy. Perhaps you've thrown the spanner at the economy. You need to go get the kitchen sink. When the Tories say no, be prepared to take it. That's one thing I can support.
