I don’t think we’re super alike even in this particular area, but I think Shylock is really the first time I’ve encountered a character in the wild who clicks with a lot of my own processes, esp in seeking out and relishing Complicated Emotions

I joke sometimes that Shylock is my bias because we’re both priestfuckers but it really does feel incredibly validating to listen to some shameless ikemen give a whole spiel abt how the tension of wanting something and Not partaking is in and of itself inherently appealing

and he just says all kinds of shit like that that I end up feeling weirdly fulfilled abt. the contradiction of him being a doting, controlling, attention-loving person who does everything he can to position himself as a passive observer bc he’s wary of his own overbearing nature,

being incredibly settled but drawn to the exact opposite, accepting and finding charming points in anything, being confident and assured in his sense of self and yet agonizing over whether he has underlying motivations bleeding through and unconsciously influencing his actions...

the contrast of how deliberately put together his hedonism is with how he can’t quite help himself when he gets mad... and how he’s also drawn to that feeling too, and the way it overtakes him

I also am a big gap moe aficionado and I love that the flirty teasing oneesan is a fuckin raging jealous tsundere. I also didn’t expect him to be very... nature-aligned? and it’s really cute??? the lovehate duo jewels-flowers motif contrast is underrated

I basically got into mhyk bc my paramour described the whole Murr/Shylock ongoing trainwreck so needless to say my feelings on that entire relationship are also Thanks, I Love It Here

I also love all sadists and masochists by default and Shylock really went right off and maxed both stats for fun. love that for him.

anyway this is why I spend all my time crying about Heathcliff cuz if I talked about Shylock I’d just be like “check out this quote that makes total sense to me so I don’t need to explain it at all” and then I tweet a followup 10min later like “I swear I’m not a crazy person”
