Thanks to everyone who has been following. What wild a ride! Before I log off, I wanted to take the opportunity to yarn about Mother’s Day tomorrow, to give you an idea of what the day means to kids living in Out of Home Care today 🖤💛❤️ #OurMobsMatter #MothersDay @fam_matters_au
Growing up in care, #Mum was always such a triggering word. I never knew my own then, and all I wanted as a little boy was to have someone to call Mum. Every home I went to, I was hopeful that I’d found the one – I never did. You feel hopeless and not worthy of love.
For the kids in care who do know their Mums, they are reminded that they can’t be with them. They are told they are not capable of loving or caring for them. You feel alone and ashamed. #MothersDay #OurMobsMatter
At school, Mums were everywhere, at pick ups, drops offs, in the school canteen. Before #MothersDay we would make cards and art in class as gifts. I was embarrassed so I would pretend and make one anyway and wonder who I'd give mine to.
#MothersDay is difficult for so many families and children. This year let's try and use more inclusive language (eg. 'let's make a card for someone special') and keep an eye out and heart open for our kids who might be feeling extra triggered. #OurMobsMatter @fam_matters_au
