Denver Nuggets @ Utah Jazz 05/08/2021 Thread ->
Post ups are not dead.

The post split game is alive and vibrant.
Rudy Gobert threads the needle.

One of the better passes I've seen him make.
MPJ had a decent look from 3 here, but I'm glad he countered the over/through from Clarkson (Trailing the play now) by putting the ball on the deck.
If Denver isn't able to bring one of the forwards or bigs over as the low-man (Typically, Jokic will come higher when they do this), opponents will like the looks they get.

DEN does the late-swich w/ Millsap -> over/through + Jokic picks Bogdanovic up in lane.

Old Spurs Special
MPJ is Durant-Esque off a pindown.
Laker Cut!!!

Being able to rub off a guy like Nikola Jokic is basketball luxury.
Overplays the initial screen, increasing the re-screen's effectiveness.

Sloppy feet, opens up, doesn't contest into ball.

That final plant near the arc put Jokic in the grave.
Bogdanovic gives the Jazz so many playoff solutions.

Post a mismatch, great shooter (C&S, sidesteps, even vs. runoffs -> counter game), some wiggle/handle.
PPP on floaters league-wide is not great, but I maintain that it is a good shot, especially if you master it.

Can get into it from a euro, stop & pop, trot into gracefully...

You're not gonna get all the way to the rim every time, if this is in your bag, you're in a good spot.
Look early and opposite with your hit-aheads.

It's easy and effective offense when the defense is getting set to defend strongside.
Joe Ingles is one of the league's unsung ball screen aces.

He might be my 6MOTY pick.
One of the best scramble defenses vs. one of the best ball moving teams.

Lets get a playoff rematch between these cats.
Bogdanovic has just enough of a comfort level putting the ball on the deck.

Not just a shooter, has skill + an in-between game.

Royce O'Neale is a 0.5 ace.

Every decision feels correct and timely.

Millsap needs appreciation, comes through as low-man, closes out to corner.
The pick & sit has become a lost art as the number of catch & shoot 2's decline.

For good reason, but I do like the idea of a solid shooter getting a look in rhythm that he can make at a 50% clip.
Ingles/Favors (Underrated PnR Pair) vs. Gordon/Jokic

Here lies the issue.

ICE Coverage

Shaq Harrison is the weakside help.

Gotta pull the trigger better, and play it 3-on-2. Trust Millsap to split and x-out.
This is the element they (Utah) were missing last playoffs.

It's no surprise they're having the season many thought they'd have last year now.
Wow, this is a difficult pass.

To put the entry pinpoint with that spin is impassive.

I called Campazzo a grunt a week or so ago, but his recent play has been promising while DEN is down bodies.
This is the counter to Jokic coming high vs. these ball screens.

Single-side tag -> kick to the corner
Look at Bogdanovic put the defender in jail, and draw the contact from Gordon.
Glad Ingles has accepted that he's good enough to pull-up -> gather -> splash on these PU3's.
I always say Jokic hits "Junk".

This is a compliment of the highest form.

Even when you control the engagement, he can still win the rep.

What a freaking ace from floater range.
Miye Oni OREB + Kickout
Miye Oni w/ the Royce O'Neale-Esque extra pass.
Oni flashing big-time in this game.

Top-locks and jams MPJ.

High-hands on the entry + steals the pass.
Jokic is looking at Gordon when he makes this pass.

The no-look gives Rivers just enough time to get a clean catch & shoot look, as Clarkson is held at bay due to the eyes.
DEN is hedging HARD vs. Bogdanovic, that gets the defense shifting.

Move the ball, live with the result.
The block on Jokic was the BOOM play, but Gobert running the floor is part of the reason Clarkson gets the open 3.
Closeout short to Jokic, he doesn't want to take the 3 ball.

He wants to put the ball on the deck, and either give it up to a teammate, or dribble until he's stopped.

Bonus points for finishing with the left hand.
Look at how deep DEN drops Jokic.

They're trusting MPJ to get through the screen on an island.

DEN just not quite air-tight enough, leads to a foul.
This is where Jokic does just enough.

Side ball screen, at the level.

Slides his feet, takes the bump.

Gordon deflection, and Rivers rotates into the passing lane.
When the defender is high towards the screen...

Reject -> Penetrate (Wide Open GAP)

Helps gotta come, and they can't keep Gobert off the glass.
This postseason, the Jazz will need Jordan Clarkson to be a switch-beater.

On this possession; up 3 with a minute left, Clarkson does just that.

Gets Gordon on a swap -> SPLASH
