Valentine Buraimoh, Zoran Milanovic, these names are understandably unlikely to ring any bells for most people.

Valentine Buraimoh is the chairperson of Amuwo Odofin LGA in Lagos while Zoran Milanovic is the president of Croatia.
My juxtaposition of these two personalities is about highlighting the impact of the differences between the political processes and nation models they are under and seeing if Nigeria could find some useful tips on a way forward.
Amuwo Odofin is a local government area in Lagos with an estimated population of 1.5 million people.
Croatia is a country of 3 million people.
The election that led to the emergence of Valentine Buraimoh had him getting 4,467 votes to become the executive leader of an area with half of Croatia's population.
Zoran Milanovic became Croatia's president by getting roughly 1 million votes in a country with roughly just twice the population of Amuwo Odofin.

1 million votes Vs. 4,467 votes:
This is with just twice the population. Croatian voter participation is very different from Lagos's (and Nigeria's) voter participation.
Now Zoran Milanovic is a president who is held responsible for governance outcomes in a country that has been a member of the European Union since July 1, 2013. He has to lead the process of optimising economic performance, security, infrastructural development, etc.
Valentine Buraimoh on the other hand can stand in Shoprite Festac, Amuwo Odofin for 2 weeks straight without being recognized by any of his constituents. Valentine Buraimoh is also technically responsible for most of the types of things Zoran Milanovic has to work but ....
