I would like to address a few points about #Labour's Performances in the 2017 & 2019 General Elections: https://twitter.com/EssexGirondin/status/1390543575482568704
*Anyone who claims that the 2019 General Election was "The #LabourParty's Worst Performance since 1935" is forgetting certain facts.
Namely that #Labour (under #Corbyn) got a higher % of the Vote in #England & #Wales (and thus #Britain) than the likes of #MichaelFoot, #NeilKinnock, #GordonBrown & #EdMiliband. In fact their 2019 Performance (in England & Wales) was only 1-2% less than #TonyBlair got in 2005.
Now while it is true that the seat total was the worst since 1935. Bear in mind that the biggest reason for this was the demise of #ScottishLabour (something that is hardly #Corbyn's fault).
Hence why #Labour (under #Corbyn) won more seats in #England & #Wales in 2019 than #MichaelFoot in 1983 and #NeilKinnock in 1987...
...all the while winning only 16 less seats than Gordon Brown did in 2010 (in #England & #Wales) & winning 30 less seats than #EdMiliband did in 2015 (who benefitted from #UKIP splitting the #Tory Vote).
*Besides the fact that #Labour (under #Corbyn) got a 40% share of the vote since the #TonyBlair era (and do so without the support of #FleetStreet & after the demise of #ScottishLabour) in 2017...
...the #LabourParty (under #Corbyn) also managed to get a higher % of the vote (in #England & #Wales) than what #TonyBlair managed to get in both 2001 & 2005. In fact it was #Labour's 2nd best performance (in England & Wales) in a General Election since 1970.
*Thus since a 1997-style Landslide is all but impossible (since #RupertMurdoch & the rest of #FleetStreet would never back #Labour in any future GE), the main reason why the #LabourParty didn't win in 2017 & 2019 was mainly because of the failure to agree a #ProgressiveAlliance.
Not just because said failure not only allowed the #Conservatives to win large numbers of seats with less than 55% of the vote (in both 2017 & 2019), but also because (in 2017 & 2019) the only votes left that #Labour could squeeze (to win a majority) where indeed #LibDem votes.
So if anyone wants to find a main culprit for #Labour not winning a majority in 2017 or 2019. It's wasn't the likes of #TonyBlair or #Corbyn (although both did play a part), rather it was the likes of #TimFarron & #JoSwinson.
*Regardless the only way forward is with the establishment of a #ProgressiveAlliance (that supports #DemocraticSocialism, #RejoinEU & a #GreenNewDeal, while being completely opposed to #Bigotry) involving #Labour, the #LibDems, #GreenParty, #PlaidCymru & others.
This would have to mean that #Labour, the #LibDems & the #Centrist #MiddleClass completely abandoning any support for #LaissezFaire #Capitalism (and instead fully embracing #Scandinavian Style #SocialDemocracy aka #DemocraticSocialism)...
...as well as all parties involved in a #ProgressiveAlliance accepting that #Britain should both agree an immediate #SingleMarket/ #CustomsUnion Deal with the #EU and have a #RejoinEU referendum in 5 years.
