Labour has only been in power for 17 years out of the last 120 on a socialist ticket. England is not a socialist country and the route to power for Labour is not more socialism however much its members want that to be the case. Neither is it mirroring the Tories with an agenda
that is virtually indistinguishable from theirs. Labour needs a new defining purpose that is fit for the 21st century and sets out a clearly different agenda and values to the Tories. I think that should be sustainability. A merger with the Green Party and a focus on delivering
a sustainable country with an emphasis on social justice, equality and the recognition and encouragement of aspiration. They could regenerate post-industrial areas by investing in green technology and making the U.K. a world leader in that, they could build social housing using
the Vienna Housing Model, they could fundamentally reform the political system via PR, turn land ownership into stewardship with an emphasis on increasing biodiversity and could make the key indicator for success quality of life and happiness rather than economic growth.
Labour will never win power on its own. It will never win power by just moving further left. The centre is barren and the right is toxic. Labour needs a new message and fertile ground to nurture it in. A sustainable country for the sake of your children and grandchildren is
where I think that difference lies. The alternative is a Tory government in perpetuity or Blairism which is pretty much the same thing. I know that nobody will listen. That’s my unpopular opinion for today.
PS in case you hadn’t noticed you could do all of the positive socialist stuff under this green umbrella rather than a red flag.
This will, of course, never happen because 👇
