Numerous antifascists working in the Portland area have seen reports from community members stating that last night (Thursday, May 6th), a group of 30+ Proud Boys was engaged as security for an undisclosed private evening event held at a NE Portland church.

The Proud Boys reportedly patrolled the surrounding block from all evening, clearly drunk, shouting at each other and passers-by, shining flashlights people's homes, displaying weapons, threatening, and even spitting on people when approached or asked to stop.

Earlier this week, local reporters published that the Multnomah County Republican Party would be holding a private meeting on May 6th, to vote on recalling "Chairman Stephen Lloyd, in part because he proclaimed that the party should be 'open to everyone.'" https://www.wweek.com/news/2021/05/04/multnomah-county-republican-party-plans-recall-vote-of-chairman-who-advocated-for-diversity/

At this point, we have not been able to confirm that this event on the evening of the 6th was in fact the MultCo GOP private vote, but it is important to note that the petition to recall Lloyd mentioned the GOPs need for security and secrecy around meetings because of "antifa."

Earlier this year, the Clark County GOP garnered public attention when they appointed notoriously violent Proud Boy Tiny Toese their "sergeant-at-arms," and allowed him to help with security at one of their meetings. https://www.opb.org/article/2021/02/25/clark-county-republicans-tusitala-tiny-toese/

Prominent Oregon Proud Boy Daniel Tooze is registered as the owner of "Proud Security Inc.," a business registered to an address in Oregon City. Tooze himself, and the majority of local Proud Boys, do not currently appear to hold security certifications from the state of Oregon.

Whether or not the event on Thursday night was held by the Multnomah County GOP, it's almost certain that the Proud Boys' "security services" are not in accordance with Oregon laws around security guard certification and employment.

Whoever "hired" the Proud Boys brought them into a local Portland neighborhood and gave them free reign to terrorize local residents going about their daily lives.
