#HappyBirthdayPatCummins
The no.1 ranked Test bowler, Patrick James Cummins celebrates his birthday today!
In the 34 tests he has played, @patcummins30 has developed into Australia's most consistent & reliable fast bowler.

Let's look at his journey in Test Cricket via a thread-
Pat Cummins made his Test debut in 2011 at Johannesburg vs SA. He took 6-79 in the 2nd innings with the Wickets of veterans like Amla, Kallis and Devillers. He also made a crucial 13* to take AUS to victory by 2 Wickets and was also adjudged the man of the match.
However, Cummins' bright start in the side turned into a nightmare. It could hardly have been more frustrating. Cummins trained well throughout the winter and built towards the start of the next season before injury hit.
The first injury was initially a bruised heel, struck after the SA series; several more would follow. A side strain in June 2012, then a back stress fracture in November, which would occur twice more, in August 2013 and September 2015, both prematurely ending his seasons.
Who would have thought that the wonder-kid from Johannesburg would not play another Test for the next 6 years.
"I was ultra-frustrated, everyone wanted to talk about my debut but I wanted to prove myself again& again, show that it wasn't just a once off" he said in an interview.
Alongside the rehab& recovery came the task of adjusting his action to make it strong & repeatable without losing potency of his bowling. The key was straightening his alignment & ensuring he was in the best position to absorb the forces of impact when he landed on his back foot.
Throughout this period, Cummins was still playing for Australia in other formats, and was also a part of the World Cup Winning squad of 2015.
The comeback:
AUS were playing the 3rd match of their four-Test tour in India. After the 2nd Test at Bangalore, Mitchell Starc had suffered a stress fracture in his right foot. As a result Cummins was called in as a replacement. And after 6 years he was set to play his 2nd Test.
Cummins bowled 39 overs & took 4 wickets in IND 1st inns total of 603 in a match that ended in a draw. On a relatively lifeless wicket in Ranchi that held together over the 5 days, Cummins' pace & bounce were exciting reminders of what Australian Test cricket had been missing.
After an interminable wait, the comeback did not disappoint. After the 4th Test at Dharamsala, he played three back-to-back first-class games in 3 weeks and his body responded well and he was able to cope with the workload. It was the first time he had done that in years.
The 2017-18 Ashes Tests were, astonishingly, Cummins' first on home soil. With so much delayed public expectation riding on his performances, he didn't disappoint, taking 23 wickets at 24.6 helping Australia reclaim the "urn".
Then came the infamous Test series vs SA where the ball-tampering saga unveiled, with three players sent home in disgrace and doubts cast on the integrity of those who remained.
Pat Cummins however was the best Australian bowler in the series & picked up 22 Wickets in 4 matches.
Cummins was monumental in the home series against India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2018. He took 14 Wickets and also made some vital contributions with the bat. However it couldn't save Australia from a 2-1 series Defeat !
He was subsequently rewarded with the Test vice-captaincy against SL. He claimed 14 wickets, including a six-wicket haul, in the 2-match Test series. He became the No. 1 ranked Test bowler in the world & claimed the Allan Border Medal as the 2018-19 men's cricketer of the year.
In the 2019 Ashes, Cummins was the only Australian fast bowler to play all five Tests. He was the leading wicket-taker in the series, with 29 Wickets at an average of 19.62. His performances ensured that Australia took home the Ashes !
In the recently concluded BGT, where India literally created history with their 2-1 series victory, Cummins was the highest wicket taker with 21 Wickets at an average of 20.04, he looked threatening with every ball he bowled throughout the series and was the Player of the Series.
Cummins 2.0 is slightly different to the original teenage version. Since his return, he has shortened his length and has come up with increased control and more refined swing which has made him more potent. He also has sustained durability now and can bowl long spells with ease.
In the penultimate over of Cummins' glorious Test debut, he faced Steyn, then the world's No. 1 Test bowler. Who would have thought that the same teenager who would eventually wear his crown 10 years later !
So here's wishing #PatCummins a very happy Birthday and hoping that we see his enthralling fast bowling in the years to come !
