1. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SHEIKH JARRAH?

in October 2020, an Israeli court ruled to evict Palestinian families from East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah by force, and hand their properties with having each evicted family to pay 20k$ to cover settlers' legal expanses.

Sheikh jarrah is an old city and home to 28 Palestinian refugee families who were ethnically cleansed from their original homes during the 1948 Nakba, and under and agreement between UNRWA & Jordan in 1956, these families were promised housing and land in Sheikh Jarrah.

These families were promised to receive ownership titles after 3 yeaes but this never happened and Israel conquered East Jerusalem before these titles materialized.

Forced evictions aren't new to Sheikh Jarrah, they have been happening since 1972. Backed by soldiers and police, settlers routinly drag Palestinians out of their homes. These people are threatened now by not only being homeless, but also paying fees for their own evictions.

The ethnic cleansing of Sheikh Jarrah is just an example of Israeli settler-colonialism which aims to create a Jewish majority not just in East Jerusalem, but across Israeli Palestine by establishing segregated Jewish-only settlements.

"If you're not evicted from your home, it's demolished; if you're not imprisoned, you're shot in the street; if you're not shot in the street, there's a drone in your sky in the Gaza Strip; if it's not a bomb, it's exile" says Muhamad El Kurd, a member of one of the families.

Sheikh Jarrah is one of the last fronts resisting colonisation today. Losing Sheikh Jarrah would represent the loss of Jerusalem's Palestinian Identity. It signals a horrifying fate for the remaining dwindling indigenous population.

2. WHAT ARE THE DEMANDS OF SHEIKH JARRAH COMMUNITY?

1- Refuse the jurisdiction of Israeli courts that favor settler organisations, and recognise that Israeli legal system implements colonial policies of displacement.

2- Call on the international community to take strict public diplomatic & political measures to condemn Israel's continued policy of ethnic cleansing of East Jerusalem neighbourhoods.

3- Call upon UNRWA to provide protection to the refugees in Sheikh Jarrah, whose refugee-

status and benefits were confiscated in 1956 in exchange of a promise that was never fulfilled.

4- Demand the Jordanian government to honor its obligations under the 1956 agreement, and adk Jordan's King Abdullah II to take a political stand against the Israeli's policies.

5- Call upon the people of Jerusalem to support the families threatened with displacement.

6- Demand the due diligence required to return the homes stolen from Sheikh Jarrah over the years, and cease any further colonial trials and orders.

3. HOW CAN YOU HELP?

In such cases, what matters the most is spreading awareness and gaining the media coverage. This is accomplished by social media. Educate yourself about it and post about what's happening in Sheikh Jarrah using the hashtag #SaveSheikhJarrah
