In a particularly sad case recently, a patient said to me- "I didn& #39;t think COVID was anything more than a cold. I laughed at masks. Now I& #39;m here. And my dad is dead. And my mom is in an ICU. This isn& #39;t a cold."/3
The sadness was palpable. The silence was haunting. The realization that it didn& #39;t have to be this way was heavy./4
The divisiveness of this pandemic is ugly. Brings out the worst in so many.
But at the end of the day, the human suffering is deafeningly unifying.
