*dao mental models*

mental models shape how we perceive the world.

the closer something new is to a well mapped mental model, the faster the comprehension.

this comes w/ upsides (speed) & downsides (biases).
understanding existing mental models can help accelerate daos.

two broad groups:

a) aspirational
b) pragmatic

aspirationals — vision driven, dogmatic (to an extent), little compromise.

pragmatics — results driven, flexible, conservative, risk adverse, limited creativity.
we need both, but they can't exist within the same product. need to think about it like a control group & experimental group.

given green fields, both are likely to succeed against certain verticals.

can't conflate success in a vertical with success as a whole.
moving down a layer... how do we map mental models of contributors and/or future "employees"?

what do they need? what do they expect?

what can be thrown away? what can be re-done?

humans don't like change — but this will change, so how do we guide them here?
mental models to explore:

* a company
* a boss
* a job
* compensation
* co-workers
* benefits / perks
* equity
* teams / divisions / orgs

[side thought: maybe I should make a dictionary that ports these terms over?]
what do you all think? would love some constructive criticism on this concept to see if it's worth writing into a newsletter post?
