Breaking: We have been reporting on @AlArabiya that members of Libyan militias & some of their leaders ransacked Hotel Corinthia in Tripoli, where the Presidential Council is staying demanding the reinstating of the former Libyan Intelligence Chief & the firing of the current FM.
No one has been harmed so far & there were no officials inside the hotel at the time of ransacking it, according to Gov. sources. However there is an unconfirmed report claiming that Mr. Mohammed Al-Mabrouk, the office manager of the president, has been kidnapped. @StephDujarric
There is no confirmation of the kidnapping report Yet & Gov. Sources are denying it. This is not the first time that members of Libyan Militias ransack this particular hotel, they did this in the past and kidnapped former head of the Gov. Ali Zaidan in a well publicized incident!
20-30 Armed cars took part in the ransacking in a well coordinated move, according to some sources. It is not yet confirmed who stands behind these Militias & the extent of the attack is not yet confirmed. Libya FM Najla Mangouch was not in Tripoli but visiting the city of Sabha!
Muhammad Al-Manfi, head the Presidential Council is reported to be in a safe location tonight. Unconfirmed reports argue that the attack on the Hotel aimed at terrorizing the elected Libyan Officials & that the Militia belongs to the Misrata Groups of Militias controlling Tripoli
Very worrying developements in Tripoli both to the Libyan people & the International Community. As long as the Armed Militia forces continue to operate freely with foreign backing & side by side with foreign forces & fighters, the road to peace in Libya will be long & difficult!
