Call it what you want, open carry makes me feel LESS SAFE, @DrSchwertner. There is a gun violence epidemic, and you think it’s a good idea for anyone to openly carry? How do we know who is a responsible gun owner?

Why is the GOP prescription for gun violence more guns? Hmm, people are dying of lung cancer? Let’s surround them with smokers. I won’t mock anyone’s faith, but why is the “right” to carry more sacred than the Sacred?
What’s to stop a “parent” from coming into the office of a school and gunning down the staff and kids? You are putting MORE people in the lines of fire (yes, plural). How many will be shot and killed by the “good” gun owners when they miss the “bad guy.”
How can you justify that this absurd gun fetish is more important than the lives of MURDERED CHILDREN and Americans... I’m dumbfounded. All this death... there is no justification. No solace for those grieving families. You might as well gift them a gun at each funeral.
I feel so frustrated and powerless as these mass shootings continue to occur, but I can’t imagine how all the victims’ families feel. The only thing I can do is to teach my students to work through conflict calmly and seek out mutual understanding.
I know that won’t protect them from a violent assault, but it teaches them how to better channel and control frustration, fear, and anger.
You say that you are pro public education, @DrSchwertner, but guns do not belong anywhere near schools, and this open carry law makes everyone less safe. I know this thread is rambling, but...
As a teacher in Texas, I have many thoughts about access to guns and our schools, and I am careful to not advocate for gun control in my professional capacity. It’s my hope, however, that we can build a nation and world where we don’t feel the need for so many weapons.
