...missed opportunities along the way. They didn't know financial advisors existed. My mom thought I was accountant for a long time. 😆The reality is, 1st & 2nd gen Americans have unique experiences with money & define wealth and success differently. 2/x
From my own experience, I was encouraged NOT to work but to focus on my education. (I still worked because this girl likes to have a nice meal now and then. I lied about the hours I was working, though.) Following school was an immense pressure to get a "good job". 3/x
Through it all, I ended up in finance. When I first entered the industry in 2010, I had no clue how the financial markets worked. What's a retirement plan? How do you buy a stock? What's a mutual fund or ETF? 0 Knowledge. 4/x
For 1st & 2nd gen families, the exposure isn't there. The access to education isn't there. If it hadn't been even pursuing a career in finance - I'm not exactly sure what level of knowledge I'd have today. 5/x
My point is - actually I've forgotten my point. But there is a lot of work that still needs to be done to make personal finance more accessible to 1st & 2nd gen families. My hope in my career is that I can somehow tap into helping people with that goal in mind. 6/x
