So, yes, today was bad. Objectively it was bad as every death at this point was preventable, and 400+ cases (in and not yet in the system), so this is a lot to sit with. But I am hopeful! The only way out is through. We can do this!
Here is why (a thread):
Here is why (a thread):
The province-wide lockdown came into effect 10 days ago, and there is a 14 day incubation period. Between the backlog of data entry and the fact that we still have 4 days to go, it& #39;s ok to not see a trend down yet. https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1890618435642">https://www.cbc.ca/player/pl...
Right now, around 310k people in NS have gotten 1 or more shots in the arm. The province is getting around 79K doses a week from the Feds. This *should* ramp up in 2 weeks, but even if it doesn& #39;t 60% 1 shot in arms 16+ may 27ish, 70% June 4ish, 80% June 12ish.
Now 1 shot is not as good as 2 shots but studies show that 1 shot of AZ is 73% effective, and 80% effective at keeping folks out of hospital. https://www.latimes.com/science/story/2021-03-03/single-shot-of-two-dose-covid-19-vaccine-can-prevent-serious-illness-and-death">https://www.latimes.com/science/s...
Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are likely 80% effective against symptomatic COVID-19 after one dose. https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-vaccine-one-shot-effectiveness-pfizer-moderna-astrazeneca-vaccines-dose-2021-3?op=1">https://www.businessinsider.com/covid-vac...
Remember - the vaccines are not fully effective for 14-21 days after you get them, but we should see spread and serious illness drop rapidly between end of May to end of June. https://6abc.com/covid-vaccine-19-moderna-vaccination/9558108/">https://6abc.com/covid-vac...
So while we all need 2 doses, & youngsters need it, and a lot depends on variants, the bottom line is that as Dr Strang said, May will be awful, but betters days are ahead, just 4-6-8 weeks away.
So stay strong, stay home, we will get through this!
