I've never tweeted a selfie before but I'm so pleased to have got my glasses sorted out I'm going for it. Here are the only frames in the whole opticians that my lenses fit in. I was so relieved! You can see how strong they are by how much they distort the width of my face.
I had a pretty awful time this afternoon, the sun was very bright and I got massively stressed. I actually burst into tears in the opticians, which is really not like me. Just sat there in the chair with tears streaming down my face like a kid. I'm still astonished by it.
They didn't have my old frames, or anything similar. Apparently larger frames are in fashion atm, which is really useless for people like me who *need* small frames. It's not a fashion choice for people with visual impairments, why should we be dependant on such whims?
Anyway, to my relief they finally came up with some frames that my lenses would fit in, and I had to take them because the alternative was a 2 week wait while my old frames were sent off for repairs which might or might not work. That's when I started crying.
I'd been so worried about not being able to see for weeks on end, the relief was too much for me. At the same time, they were ÂŁ85, and that's a massive chunk of money for a disabled person. I was shaking with anger, too; I'm so fucking tired of life being so precarious.
It was pretty bad, I do feel for the poor woman who was trying to help me. I'm not the crying type, I'm honestly surprised at myself. I was weak and shaking for a long time afterwards, I had to go to lie down for a couple of hours when I got in,
And I'm still shattered now. I'm utterly dependant on my glasses, why is there no help for people in a situation like this? You only get a voucher with a change of prescription, so really I was very lucky these old lenses could be salvaged. They'd have cost ÂŁ210 if not.
I'm very tired, drained in fact, so I'm off to try to sleep again. Thanks for all the kind words, comrades; it's been a real help on this long, awful day x
