Hi everyone!

I very likely won't be doing a formal Atlantic update today as I'm feeling under the weather.

Quick summary of today: nothing major in NB, NL, or PEI. Just the usual assortment of travel-related cases and close contacts thereof.
NS had another record day and the CMOH indicated that an additional 200 positive cases are waiting in the data entry backlog. It was further indicated that there will likely be high case levels for several more days.
Obviously this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear. The outbreak is far larger than we thought a couple of weeks ago. So far the large bulk of it is centered in Halifax and Dartmouth and there's not currently the same case growth else where.
Hospitalizations and ICU occupancy are at record highs in the province and we've just had out 3rd death of the current outbreak. That's 3 in one week after going over half a year without a death.
While every day more and more people are protected by vaccines, COVID-19 still had the ability to overwhelm our healthcare system and endanger a lot of people's lives.

We can see this by looking at the 3rd wave recently experienced by other provinces.
Right now, Nova Scotia is hosting a race between the public health system and the virus. The virus is winning.

The contact tracing system is backlogged and positive results are taking days to make their way through the system.
We need to give Public Health a chance to catch up by slowing the virus down.

Here's how you can help.

1) Don't become a case. Stick to household members only for being indoors and unmasked. If you don't need to make the trip, don't. Go enjoy the outdoors.
2) Don't infect others. Same idea as above. In the middle of an outbreak of this size, assume you have been exposed.

3) Get tested. If you have symptoms or a known exposure, seek testing. If you turn positive, Public Health needs to know so it can follow the infection chain.
4) Get tested. Even if you don't have symptoms, make getting tested part of your routine. This approach has already found 100s of unsuspecting cases in the community, and probably prevented hundreds more. You getting tested protects the people in your like and your community.
That's it for tonight. Have a great rest of the night.
