I recently did a paper for my crimes of the powerful module. I ended up researching and chose to do mine on child labour trafficking on lake Volta fishery in Ghana. I watched ‘The Rescue List’ which is available to rent and buy through amazon prime & YouTube.
This is about an organisation in Ghana that rescue children from lake Ghana. They emotionally support them and begin them in education. This follows one man named Kwame who is the leader of the organisation, he was trafficked on the lake as a child and was rescued at 13.
Now he does all he can to help those that were subjected to the cruelties that he was. This documentary was done fantastically and made me feel all types of emotions throughout. I urge you to watch it if you haven’t. This documentary has left a hole in my heart and opened my eyes
to the extreme cruelties in which children who are subjected to labour trafficking deal with. This isn’t me being a ‘white saviour’ this is me feeling absolutely appalled and wanting to do anything possible to help. The documentary makers created a gofundme back in January 2020
in hopes of raising $20,000 for 3 of the boys who were featured in the documentary, Teye, Peter and Edem. The gofunme page currently has $9,100 of it’s goal. I donated and I really hope me talking about this spurs others to share the gofundme and watch
the documentary or even donate where possible. I’m currently looking for other ways to support and help out where possible. This is something that’s on my mind constantly while writing my paper for university. I hope for change.
